A UPDF soldier has been dismissed from the army for defiling a Somali girl.
38 year old private Rafael Olinga was last week convicted of having sexual intercourse with a Somali girl by the seven member general court martial chaired by Lt. Andrew Guti.
According to prosecution, Olinga in 2015 while on a peace keeping mission at Jameco AMISOM Detachment in Somalia, ran after and caught a Somali girl who was grazing goats and there after forced her into sexual intercourse.
Although the suspect vehemently denied the crime he was pinned by several prosecution witnesses including the girl’s mother also a Somali national.
This evidence was followed by a medical report from Balawe hospital in Somalia which confirmed that Olinga had sexually molested the girl.
The victim who also testified exhibited signs of trauma and revealed that she has since been ridiculed since her tradition glorifies sexual purity.
Private Olinga could have been sentenced up to life imprisonment but the General court martial decided to dismiss him from the UPDF.
